The Dallas chapter just finished another successful round of College Night Recruiting in our DFW area. Nearly 40 alumni volunteers helped our LSU recruiters, Pedro Cobos and Justin Jones work College Fairs all over the metroplex this fall, and as usual, LSU tables were “slammed” with students and parents stopping by. Fall 2017, we had approximately 100 students enroll from the DFW area, and more than one third of them received some type of scholarship offer! We really are recruiting the “Best and Brightest” Texas Tigers in the DFW area, and we want to introduce some of them to you:
Alexandra Chetty is one of our 2017 Flagship Scholars and graduated from Wakeland HS in Frisco. She was born in New Orleans and came to the Dallas area after Katrina. Alex is majoring in Biochemistry with minors in English & History. She is in the LSU Honors College and hopes to attend medical school. “Thank you for all of your support and generosity!” – Alex Chetty
Emily Rutherford, a graduate of Hebron HS in Carrollton is another Flagship Scholar. She is majoring in Biological Sciences with hopes of going to dental school. Emily has pledged Kappa Kappa Gamma and works on campus in the biology labs. “I am so thankful for the recognition of this scholarship” – Emily Rutherford
Matthew Hosman, our third Flagship Scholar for 2017 is pictured here with Linda & Ron Young, who represented the Dallas Chapter at the LSU Alumni Association Scholars Banquet held at the Lod Cook Alumni Center on Nov 9, 2017. Matthew’s family lives in Ft. Worth, and he too was born in New Orleans. His intended major is Mechanical Engineering with a minor in Business Administration. Matthew participates in the Chevron Energy Leadership workshop at LSU.
His mom and lots of cousins have attended LSU, and this was a deciding factor for him choosing LSU. “I am very grateful for your contribution to LSU and my education” – Matthew Hosman
Flagship Scholars receive $20,500 per year for all 4 years in addition to a $2000 annual cash stipend.
Tiffany Noel is our newest 2017 Dallas Legacy Scholarship Recipient. She is a graduate of Ursuline Academy of Dallas and is planning to major in English. Tiffany pledged Delta Gamma and is working in the Office of Academic Affairs at LSU. Her dad, Lance Noel, is an LSU graduate and the reason Tiffany is “loving every minute of being an LSU Tiger, and I am VERY GRATEFUL for the generosity of the LSU Alumni of Dallas”. Because of all of you who have worked so hard helping to endow our Dallas Legacy Scholarship, the recipients receive $2000/year for 4 years – THANKS!
Lauren Cancienne is our current Burley Scholarship Recipient. (Col. Fred Burley was a devoted LSU graduate (1942) who established this scholarship for upperclassmen because he wanted to help students from the Dallas area.) Lauren graduated from Carrollton Christian Academy and is pursuing a double major in journalism and business management. She chose LSU because of “family tradition” (dad, grandfather and sister are all LSU alumni).
CONGRATULATIONS to all scholarship recipients! We’re proud of you!
