31st Annual Crawfish Boil - April 17, 2010 |
|
Hey, gang. What time is it? It's time for the biggest gathering of LSU alumni and fans - our 31st Annual LSU Crawfish Boil at Double D Ranch in Mesquite. Last year's transition to Double D allowed us to expand to the largest number of participants in our Dallas Chapter's history - over 800! This year promises to be not only bigger, but better! We've added more crawfish and beer lines to make lines shorter and faster. We'll have great items again for this year's Silent Auction - and autographed Paul Maineiri Championship Baseball, an autographed Les Miles football, and even a Russell Shepard game day helmet! You don't want to miss it!
You'll notice on our website that we have created an easy ordering system that allows you to purchase your tables of either 6 or 8, inside or out - you choose which section you want to be in! You can also contact us for volunteering your time for the event as well as donating auction items. To purchase or renew your membership, you will need to fill out the application online as normal.
SCHOLARSHIPS If you recall in the last update we announced our goal of raising $20,000 for LSUAA Scholarships and this is our largest fundraiser of the year. Proceeds from the silent auction, profits from the crawfish boil and 80% of membership dues collected all go toward that goal. Each month we'll post an amount that your membership dues have contributed and to date this year, we have contributed $650 from dues alone. This will be added to the $10,140 that we have invested in our 4th Top 100 Scholarship at the LSU Alumni Association.
MEMBERSHIPS Check out our website, make your selection early, renew your membership or if brand new, complete your membership application. We have 12 new members this year alone and welcome former members as well. Your cooperation in helping to make our chapter larger and more active is what is achieving our reputation as the fastest growing chapter outside the state of Louisiana and we appreciate your support.
SPONSORSHIPS New things are on the way. Granada Theater, our newest sponsor, has regular acts appearing in Dallas which you can view by clicking on their icon on our website. When ordering tickets online, use the promo code "NOSRVCFEE" or present your LSU Alumni membership card at the box office (another example of your membership value).
Our numbers have grown so that we're adding a 3rd watch party location with the addition of Press Box Grill at the corner of Elm & Ervay. Watch for an announcement of our first party with them this spring and welcome them to our growing family.
Thanks for making our chapter more diversified and helping us to achieve our goal of making LSU affordable for as many out of state students as we can. Get your crawfish boil orders in for early and choice selections. And while you're at it, click the donate button on our crawfish page to make a donation to the chapter!
Geaux Tigers! Cya on the 17th of April!

20K in 2010! At our first monthly Board meeting this year, our Board announced the creation of our goal for 2010. You'll read more of it later.
Just this past week, the annual State of the Union address was given. In keeping with transparency policies, we strive to inform you of what has taken place in the past 12 months. George Washington's original State of the Union address lasted 5 minutes. The last one given took over 70 minutes to complete. I'll try to mimic the former and not the latter in our synopsis of growth.

Merry Christmas, Happy New Year and a Bowlin' we will Geaux! And where better than the premier bowl sponsored by one of our premium sponsors- Capital One Bank. New Year's Day at noon will pit our LSU Tigers against the Penn State Nittany Lions in a rematch of our last meeting 36 years ago in the Orange Bowl. For those of you who weren't around at that time, our Tigers, led by All American Bert Jones, finally succumbed to the brute size of Penn State, led by Heisman Trophy winner John Cappelletti, to the tune of 16-9. This marks the 41st appearance in a year end bowl for LSU and the 10th year in a row (9th longest bowl streak in the nation.)
